Trusting I can go the distance

During our training to become an Ollie Coach we ask our trainees to write a metaphor of their Ollie Journey.

Trusting I can go the distance

The water shimmered with possibility, yet my confidence was barely a ripple. Not being sure if I belonged in those depths or whether I would be strong enough to stay afloat once I stepped in left.

Turning my back on that initial ‘dip’ so many times, change needed but being too busy organising those around as an excuse. But something inside — a quiet, steady pull — kept drawing me toward the shoreline. As I waded in slowly at first, letting the water rise around me and with each step carried a kind of inner fishing rod: casting into the unknown, casting out into parts of myself never explored before .

Ollie and OS21 became both the current that supported me and the line that keeps casting into deeper waters, helping pull up insights, patterns, and strengths I didn’t know were waiting beneath the surface .

As I swam further, something shifted. The ocean stopped feeling like a place I had to conquer and started feeling like a place that reflected me and supported me. Every stroke revealed a little more of who I was becoming. I am discovering strength I didn’t know I had, clarity I didn’t expect, and a sense of direction that had been waiting beneath the surface all along.

Now, no longer the hesitant swimmer watching from the sand. I am moving with the waves, learning their rhythm, shaping my own path through the water. And somewhere on the horizon, the idea of turning this journey into my future isn’t just a dream — it’s the far shoreline I steadily swim towards.

My growth isn’t about battling the ocean, it’s about becoming the kind of swimmer who trusts her own tide and knows she can go the distance.
